Over the past 2 years, a group of childcare professionals, family support workers and parents gathered to talk about challenging behaviours with Occupational Therapist, Katie Crosby of Thriving Littles. The most requested topic for training has been how to handle a meltdown. Parents and caregivers alike feel overwhelmed with challenging behaviours and stages young children go through in the first 5 to 6 years.
This group created information cards, with the guidance of Katie Crosby and her expertise, to share with coworkers. The 2nd most requested topic child caregivers asked for help with was having difficult conversations with families about their children’s behaviours. These cards have proven to be a great way to start conversation with families about techniques being used while the child is in care and how they can use these same strategies at home. What a WIN for the child when everyone is on the same page!
